Foreword

Although I do not listen music while running, as a fan of equipments, I have used headphones, in-ear headset, wired, wireless, bone conduction, intelligent, heart rate headsets. After reading a Forbes bone conduction headphone review , I would like firstly recommend bone conduction headset, and AfterShokz is the first recommendation of bone conduction headset, which I started to use this brand’s headsets form Bluz. Afterward, the titanium wire decreases the weight and improves comfortable degree. I have been using the latest Trekz Air for some time, and it is so good, so I decide to write an evaluation.

Unboxing

The packaging box follows the classic style of AfterShokz

The storage bag touches so well, which uses rubber material, but its deficiency is easy to get dust. The picture above is the condition that I take it out of box a few minutes later, which looks uncomfortable.

The appearance and function keys of Trekz Air are the same with Trekz. It follows the design of power button together with volume button.

The titanium wire frame can not only lose weight, but also easily be twisted. The titanium wire frame do not pretend to be avant-grade artwork like the picture above shows, but it has strong durability which you can easily pull it off your head and throw it in the bag.

Experience

The workmanship of Trekz Air is better than Trekz because its seams get more exquisite. However, the function keys of Trekz Air has so slight feeling of pressing that you do not know whether you press or not when you press on the face.

Trekz Air loses its weight from 36g to 30g. The 6g improves the comfortable degree of Trekz Air. When Trekz Air do not play music, it never occurs to me that I should take it off, instead, I let it there lest I want to listen music. After 20 minutes, I suddenly realize that the headsets are still on my ears. Sometimes you can ignore the existence of 30g Trekz Air, But as for 36g Trekz, you want take it off when the music stop.

As for stability, it also has satisfactory performance. Its connect framework is so thin that the center of gravity moves close to ears, hence, there is not obvious shake around scruff while doing sports. It also fits for glasses very well. I have changed several glasses without feeling any uncomfort.

As for sound quality many people concern, I explicitly say that it can meet the sound quality need of specific using condition, but bone conduction headset can hardly have great sound quality due to the way of sound transmission. Besides, the ear canals remain open, so the noise outside disturbs you all the time. For example, you completely cannot hear the sound of headsets when subway hit against the track. In this condition, you do not bother to turn the volume up because it is useless, instead, other people would think you take two loudspeakers. The advantage of it is that you can both listen to music and important information of the outside world. For instance, you would not miss the stop of subway and you would notice the car honking while running. After all, the sound music does not come first while exercising and commuting.

Above are advantages. Let’s see its disadvantages. From Bluez2 to Trekz Air, there is difference of function. Its Bluetooth headsets without optical heart rate, acceleration sensor, and internal memory. Although the volume button of Trekz Air can directly control the volume of phone, which is unlike Trekz, but it cannot count as function update. The main difference of these products is weight. The lighter every product become, the higher price is. In this aspect, Trekz Air may be not the most worthwhile. Although it is light, many users do not really need so they may be content with the second best.

Aother disadvantage is waterproof ability which is still IP. The official declare that it can be used in the rain, but there is high risk of water damage. Hence, I do not suggest using it in the rain or during exercise if you have a higher sweat output.

Conclusion

Best Bone Conduction Headset Review: AfterShokz Trekaz Air

Generally, Trekz Air is the top bone conduction headset of AfterShokz with only 30g of non-sensing wearing experiene. However, its bad waterproof ability and simple function are lower than mainstream headsets in the market. If you never use bone conduction headset, Trekz Air would be a good choice because it can give you complete bone conduction experience without other influence. If you are users of Trekz, it is not worth 160USD to get the lighter wearing feeling.
